Description
Grow Allsweet watermelon with Fothergill’s seeds for sweeter, juicier watermelons than you’ll find anywhere else. With sweet red flesh packed with flavour, nothing comes close to this refreshing summer snacking. Allsweet is a particularly reliable variety with an excellent track record for producing large, flavourful fruit in the right conditions. Its large, oblong shape and bright green-striped rind make it eye-catching as it grows. Allsweet Watermelon is ideal for those summer get-togethers. Its juicy flesh is the perfect treat on a hot day. And with very few seeds, it couldn’t be easier to slice and serve-an easy summer treat. Or, it makes an excellent base for homemade watermelon juice or smoothies blended with a twist of lime or mint. How to Sow Seeds

Growing notes: Sow Allsweet watermelon seeds in clumps, placing 4 or 5 seeds 12mm (1/2in) deep and spacing the clumps 50cm (20in) apart. Seedlings should emerge within 6-10 days. Once they germinate, thin to the two strongest per position. Pinch out the growing tips once 5-6 leaves have formed to encourage side shoots.

Keep the plants well-watered throughout their growth and prepare the soil with organic matter and fertiliser to help them grow. With good care, they should be ready to harvest in around 90 days; you can tell they’re ready if they sound hollow when you tap them. Allsweet Watermelon makes a great companion planting seed for corn seeds, as the tall corn plants provide shelter and protect the watermelon vines from harsh sunlight and wind.
