Sugarloaf cabbage is a highly regarded variety known for its compact, conical heads and exceptional flavour. Its bright green, nutrient-packed leaves have a mild, slightly sweet taste and can be enjoyed cooked or raw with a zesty dressing. Also known as pointed cabbage, Sugarloaf cabbage is sweeter and more tender than many other cabbage cultivars. Disease-resistant and easy to grow, these hardy cabbage seeds perform well in well-draining soil with plenty of sunlight. The heads mature over several weeks and can grow to impressive sizes, with some weighing up to 1.5kg when ready to harvest.

How to Sow Seeds

Method: Sow your Sugarloaf cabbage seeds in early spring or late summer, 12mm (½ in) deep in a seedbed, tray, or punnet.
Transplanting: Once the seedlings have developed 2-4 leaves, transplant them to their final positions.
Growing notes: Keep the soil consistently moist throughout the germination process. Space the plants 40-60cm (18-24 in) apart to allow room for growth. Firm the soil around the base of each plant and keep them well watered, especially during dry periods. Harvest the cabbages once the heads have formed and are firm to the touch, typically after 12-16 weeks.
