How to Sow Seeds

Growing notes: Sow your Gladalan White onion seeds in autumn, around 5mm (1/4in) deep. Onions prefer rich, well-drained soil, so it’s a good idea to improve the soil with organic material and a pre-planting fertiliser to give them a strong start. Plant them thinly in rows, covering them with fine soil or compost. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, and thin the seedlings early to 2cm (1in) apart, then to 10cm (4in) once they’re established. Allow 30cm (12in) between rows to give the plants room to grow. Keep the plants in an open, sunny position, and seedlings should emerge in 10-14 days. Water regularly and keep their growing area weed-free for best results. Harvest your onions when the tops begin to yellow and fall over, typically around mid to late summer, depending on when they were sown.
