How to Sow Seeds

Growing notes: Sow Creamgold onion seeds thinly, 6mm (1/4in) deep, in rows spaced 30cm (12in) apart. Cover the seeds with fine soil or compost, water gently, and keep the soil consistently moist. Prepare the soil well by adding organic material and a pre-planting fertiliser.

Once the seedlings emerge, thin them out early to 2cm (1in) apart, then further thin to 10cm (4in) apart as they grow, giving the strongest bulbs plenty of room to grow. Onions prefer a sunny position with well-drained soil. Keep the area free of weeds and water regularly, particularly during dry periods. Harvest your Creamgold onions once the foliage has browned and fallen over. Lift the bulbs carefully and allow them to cure in a warm, dry place before storing. Onion varieties vary in maturity, so you can have a crop for many months of the year.
