Formerly listed as a Eucalypt, many will recognise the beautiful red flowers from Australian Christmas-time bouquets, where these striking flower seeds produce blooms that make a distinctive and decorative addition to the table. A standout choice from range of Australian native seeds, this tree is also widely used as a hardy street tree, reaching heights of 12–15 m.

The glossy foliage provides excellent shade and summer protection, while even the bark adds ornamental interest. Highly recommended for larger gardens and landscapes.

How to Sow Seeds

Method: Sow in warm areas anytime.
Depth: Fill 10cm (4in) pots with moist sandy soil, wet thoroughly and compress.
Transplanting: Water regularly until about 20cm (8in) high then transplant to permanent position.
Growing notes: In frost prone areas when danger of frost is over. Sow one seed flat on its side in each pot and cover lightly with soil mix to the thickness of the seed. It is beneficial to add wildflower seed starter granules to soil surface. Keep moist. Place in warm shady position to germinate. Protect from slugs and snails. Water in well and then weekly until established. Responds well to hard pruning.
