Description
Grow your own Kangaroo Paw seeds with Mr Fothergill's. Known for doing best in dry, sunny conditions, this native Australian plant gives you gorgeous paw-shaped red and green flowers that native birds love, making it a great choice for a low-maintenance, wildlife-friendly garden. Plant them en masse for a stunning display, or combine them with other flower seed varieties for even more colour. They are at home in garden beds but grow just as well in pots and containers, so they can brighten up patios, balconies, and smaller spaces. Combine Kangaroo Paw Red and Green Wildflowers with other Australian native seeds for a resilient and reliable flower garden. Bee-friendly plants and marigold seeds will also help attract pollinators. We recommend using Wildflower Seed Starter Granules for improved germination rates and speed. These granules provide chemicals normally found in bushfire smoke that stimulate native seed germination. Plant Height: 1m

How to Sow Seeds

Method: Pots
Growing notes: How to Grow

Sow Kangaroo Paw seeds in warm areas at any time. In colder climates, wait until the danger of frost is over before sowing. Fill 10cm (4in) pots with a good quality seed-raising mix and add Mr Fothergill’s Wildflower Seed Starter granules to the soil surface. Sow one seed flat on its side in each pot and cover with soil mix to the thickness of the seed. Water, then keep evenly moist. Place the pots in a warm, shaded position and cover with clear polythene to preserve moisture and warmth until the seeds germinate. Seedlings should emerge in 1-3 weeks.

Transplant your Kangaroo Paw plants to a spot in the shade or full sun and well-drained sandy loam when they reach about 20cm (8in) high, spacing the plants 80-100cm (31-39in) apart. Use a light application of natural or slow-release fertiliser when planting out; Australian natives often have a low nutrient requirement. Water them well, and continue to water regularly until they are established. Always water around the roots and not into the body of the plant.

If ‘Ink Disease’ appears—characterised by black spots on its leaves—spray the plants with a fungicide and reduce the amount you water them.
