Description
Our Billy Button wildflower seeds are attractive perennial flower seeds with narrow woolly leaves and golden globe-shaped flowers on long, strong stems that can reach up to 75cm in height. These flower seeds bloom throughout spring and make for excellent cut flowers. Billy Buttons wildflower seeds prefer moist but well-drained soil but can take dry periods and coastal sites. They are very frost-tolerant, making them the ideal wildflower seeds for colder periods.

How to Sow Seeds

Method: Seed trays / Direct sow
Growing notes: Billy Button seeds can be sown in warm areas at any time of the year. However, in colder climates, wait until the danger of frost is over. Sow by pressing the Billy Button seeds into the soil surface directly where they are to grow, or you can start them in seed trays filled with a moist quality seed-raising mix. Water, and then keep evenly moist.

Adding Mr. Fothergill’s Wildflower Seed Starter Granules to the soil surface is beneficial. Place in a warm, shaded position to germinate fully. Transplant to the final growing position when plants are about 7cm (3”) tall—avoid disturbing the roots. Grow your Billy Button wildflowers in full sun or part shade in well-drained soil. Water regularly until established, but avoid fertilisers not designed for Australian natives.

Your seedlings should emerge between 14-21 days after sowing.

When to Plant

General: The best time to plant billy button seeds is from autumn through to spring. These wildflowers prefer cooler conditions for germination and establishment. Choose a sunny position with well-drained soil, as billy buttons do not like wet or heavy ground.
