Description
Bring something different to your vegetable patch with our Rat Tail radish seeds. This unusual variety of radish seeds is grown for its distinctive long, green, edible seed pods, rather than the traditional radish root. The pods have a crisp, juicy texture and a mild, peppery radish-like taste - perfect for fresh eating or cooking. They can be enjoyed straight from the plant, tossed into salads for a flavourful bite or used as an alternative to pea pods in stir-fries and other dishes. The Rat Tail radish is indigenous to Southern Asia but is adaptable to all climates across Australia, from the tropical to cool regions. Prolific, fast-growing and quick to crop, the pods take just 6 to 8 weeks to mature. Sow successionally in small batches for regular harvests all year round. Pair radishes with other salad favourites like cucumber seeds, capsicum seeds, and carrot seeds, or explore Mr Fothergill’s full range of vegetable seeds for more delicious and easy-to-grow options!

How to Sow Seeds

Growing notes: Rat Tail radish seeds can be sown year-round but will germinate faster in warmer soil. Sow thinly, 5mm (1/4 in) deep, in rows spaced 25cm (10 in) apart. Lightly cover the seeds with fine soil and gently firm it down. Once seedlings appear, thin them out to 25cm (10 in) between plants so that they have room to grow.

Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells, and harvest the pods once they reach 7cm (3 in) long. Pick mature pods regularly to encourage younger pods to develop.
