Growing to a height of 60cm, these sturdy annuals brighten borders and are perfect for cutting, adding a cheerful touch to indoor arrangements. Better known as the ‘Pot Marigold,’ these calendulas are not just decorative but practical. Their petals are edible, and make a colourful addition to salads, teas, and bakery treats. They are also a wonderful choice for children’s gardening projects thanks to their hardiness and how easy they are to grow. Calendula seeds are best sown in a sunny position where they can flourish with minimal effort. Find even more inspiration with Mr Fothergill’s range of flower seeds, summer seeds, dahlia seeds, and daffodil bulbs to create a garden full of colour and character. Plant Height: 60cm

How to Sow Seeds

Method: Direct sow
Growing notes: How to Grow

Sow Calendula Pacific Beauty Mixed seeds directly where they are to flower, in rows or clumps, about 0.5in (12mm) deep. Keep the soil moist. Once seedlings have grown, thin them out to 9in (25cm) apart to allow space for healthy growth. Apply a pre-planting fertiliser when preparing the soil to improve the health and size of the flowers. Remove dead flowers regularly to prolong the flowering period.

Calendula isn’t the only edible flower. Read our guide to edible flowers for more information.
