How to Sow Seeds

Method: Direct sow
Growing notes: Sow Lyon Prizetaker leek seeds 12mm (1/2in) deep in a seed bed and keep the soil moist as the seeds germinate. Once seedlings reach about 20cm (8in) tall, transplant them to their final growing positions. Make holes 15cm (6in) deep and 15cm (6in) apart, with 30cm (12in) between rows. Drop each plant into a hole and water it in - there’s no need to firm the soil around the stems. Keep leeks well-watered, especially during dry spells, and feed regularly to encourage strong growth. Harvest when the stems reach around 20mm (3/4in) thick, usually 12- 16 weeks after transplanting. For a milder flavour, leave them to mature longer before pulling.
