Growing notes: How to Grow

Sow Gazania seeds 5mm (1/4in) deep in seed trays or boxes, ideally using seed-raising mix or compost. Keep the soil moist during germination. Once the seedlings reach 5cm (2in), transplant them to their flowering position, spacing them 25cm (10in) apart. After flowering, remove dead blooms to encourage more flower growth. Apply mulch around the base in hot weather to retain moisture and keep the roots cool.

When to Plant

General: The best time to plant gazania seeds or plants is from spring through to autumn. Warm soil and plenty of sunlight will promote strong growth and flowering. In cooler regions, planting in spring allows gazanias to establish before cooler weather arrives.
