How to Sow Seeds

Method: Direct sow
Growing notes: Sow Calabrese Samson F1 Broccoli seeds 5mm (1/4in) deep in a seed tray or directly into a prepared garden bed with fertile, well-drained soil. Lightly cover the seeds with fine soil and gently firm down. Water thoroughly after sowing to ensure the seeds are settled in. Broccoli seedlings usually appear within 7-14 days.

When they get large enough to handle, transplant them to their final growing position, spacing the plants 60cm (24in) apart to allow room for their large heads to develop. Choose a sunny spot for the best results, and keep the soil moist throughout the growing period. Apply a general-purpose fertiliser or organic feed during the growing season to support healthy growth. Harvest the main broccoli heads 12-16 weeks after sowing, when the heads are tight and fully formed. After the main head is harvested, the plant will continue to produce side shoots for extended cropping.
