SPECIAL ORDER PRODUCT 1-2 WEEKS FOR SUPPLY

With all types of land restoration projects, residential or commercial, small or large-scale, land erosion is one of the greatest threats. If left unchecked, land erosion can result in considerable financial losses, as well as many labour hours wasted.

One very effective way of preventing land erosion is to install coir matting. It is an open-weaved sheet of 100% biodegradable natural coconut fibre thread. Weaving the product provides it with additional strength against land erosion, as well as making it last longer than other erosion control products, such as jute matting.

Coir matting is designed to be partnered with vegetation during natural regeneration projects as the vegetation provides it with enough strength to prevent any land erosion, even after long periods of heavy rain. As a result, it is developed to be the perfect partner to vegetation, promoting the growth of any new plants and preventing the loss of moisture from the topsoil.

Although coir matting is completely biodegradable, it is designed to be a permanent solution to any land erosion issue, being able to resist extreme winds and temperature whilst still maintaining moisture and preventing land erosion.

Installation Instructions
First, make sure that the site is free of debris and weeds. If you are planting into the matting, it’s preferable to add around 50-millimetre layer of topsoil.

  1. Pin the natural fibre into the trench, at the top of the slope. Then roll it down to the base.
  2. Backfill your trench and unfold your bail down the slope.
  3. The product comes in panel sizes that are 2 metres wide by 25 metres long. So, if you need to cut a section off, you can easily use some sharp scissors.
  4. As you’re adding your second rolls of coir matting, make sure they overlap by a hundred mil.
  5. For large-scale installations, you may want to use the tackler gun, which has a cartridge of pins of 37. With hand and foot motion, it’s a lot easier to put the pins into the ground.
  6. When you finish pinning the coir matting to the surface, you can then start putting your plants in the ground.

We have three varieties of coir matting at All Stake Supply. We have a fine option, which is 400 grams per square meter (GSM). Used in scenarios where there’s very little water flow like a flat country. In the video above, the matting used is the medium 700 GSM, which is used in most installations. We also have the heavy-duty options, which come in 900 GSM and is used in areas with high water flow such as swales and around drainage areas.
