Botanical name – Citrus sinensis ‘Dwarf Cara Cara’
Common name – Dwarf Cara Cara Orange
Description – Cara Cara navel oranges are a super sweet navel orange with a unique little colour characteristic in that its flesh usually takes on a distinct pinkish colour. The depth of this colouration depends on the climate, of course, with cooler weather lending to a more obvious pinky appearance. The fruit has grown in popularity due to its very low acidity, often lacking the tartness other oranges have. It’s perfect eaten fresh off the tree, and while it doesn’t always have the most juice content, it can also be squeezed into your normal orange juice a bit of colour and sweetness.
The tree is a compact grower that has a nice bushy habit, especially when pruned. When planted in the ground in ideal conditions, the dwarf Cara Cara tree will only grow around 1.5 – 2m tall in its lifetime, making it a good option for limited space areas. It’s also perfectly suited to being grown in a pot, as well.
